About the Artist
Maria spent much of her
childhood reading books, drawing pictures, and exploring
the realms of imagination. These habits have resulted in
dozens of paintings, hundreds of doodles, and the
bringing to light of many characters and scenes that may
or may not exist in "real" life.
An ardent admirer of all moving
pictures, Maria is happily exploring the fourth dimension
and creating animated shorts. She sees animation as a
gradual expansion of visual storytelling. She graduated
from Laguna College of Art and Design with a degree in
Illustration in 2004. Laguna afforded the opportunity of
rigorous traditional study and technique.
Before graduating
from LCAD, Maria had also been immersed in Religious
Studies at UC Berkeley, which continues to influence the
deeper and more sacred aspects of her work. Her artistic
studies began at the Los Angeles County High School for
the Arts, in the visual arts curriculum.
She continues to be involved in a variety of media and
platforms with the same unique philosophy of creating
playful and engaging images.
